TV Dog Bed

My first blog post:

So the other day my wife, three children, and I went to go pick up four lockers for a future honey I see can you do for your daughter.  So we pick up these nice lockers she found on Craig's list.  We were driving by my work so we stopped by to show the kids my work.  We started to leave and my wife sees this old TV sitting out on the curb for the trash.  She then says "can you get that for me."  My pickup bed was totally full with the lockers so I could not get the TV.  I told here we could not have it and it would not fit.  She says that she has been looking for one of those TVs to turn into a dog bed.  She saw them online and wanted me to make her one.  My work is about 30 miles from my house.  So I told here no and then I went to pick it up.  Below are the pictures and how I turned it into a usable dog bed.

This Picture shows the tube taken out.  This was the easiest part of the whole project.  6 screws held the tube in place.  Someone was kind enough to take all the electrical, copper, and metal components inside the TV.  It also did not have the back either.  The wheels were taken off so it would not move and made it easier to work on.

So this is the view from the back of the unit.  You can see inside.  There is a plastic cover that holds the tube in place makes it look more like a TV.  However, this plastic is somewhat difficult to remove.  There are probably 75 staples holding the plastic in place.  Normally staples are easy to remove.  Not these, When you pry the staples and plastic out of the wood they stay connected into the plastic so when you pull the screwdriver out the plastic forces the staple back into the original place.  So I was able to place a screwdriver under the staples and forced them out of the plastic.  There are also probable 30 screws that need to be removed as well.  In the picture you can also see some of the tools I used to assist me.

They did not seem to want the speakers to I guess since they were screwed in it was too hard to get out.

Here is a picture of the staples still stuck into the plastic like I stated above.  Lots of staples

Here is the side panels that are for the speakers.  I liked the look without the fabric, so I removed the wood so you could see through the side panels.  I sawed the sides just to the sides of the screws.  This will allow the panels to stay secure in place.  You can see the outline I used to remove the wood.

Below are the tools I used to assist me in this Honey project.

The back is 1/4" birch plywood with some screws I recycled from what I removed inside the TV cabinet.  I sanded and then put on one regular Zinssar Bulls eye water based primer coat.  Then a light sand on the primer.

The finished painted Dog Box.  I used 4 cans of black semigloss spray paint.  I removed and painted the back separate from the other.

Below is our Tre laying on the finished bed.  I also picked up some fabric at Hobby Lobby and sewed some covers for the drab brown cushions we had for the pillows.
